In this online course, which is available on demand, you acquire the required know-how to process, apply and successfully accompany and submit DGNB certifications under the DGNB System for Biodiversity-Promoting Exterior Spaces. As well as learning about the different stages of the process and the software used by the DGNB, you will also be shown how to work with clients and DGNB departments involved in project support.
To complete the course, you will be given access to the DGNB learning platform for five weeks. During this time, you can learn content at your own pace thanks to a series of explanatory videos, short texts and learning assessments. There will also be a live online question and answer session with the DGNB tutors for you to ask questions.

Acquired knowledge regarding the certification of biodiversity-promoting exterior spaces also forms part of DGNB Biodiversity Manager training and can only be booked in this context.
DGNB Biodiversity Manager training comprises three modules (System Module 1, Expert Know-How – Biodiversity-Promoting Exterior Spaces and Certification Know-How – Biodiversity-Promoting Exterior Spaces). Following successful examination, participants are qualified to submit exterior space projects for DGNB Certification.

This on-demand course provides you with the required support to start accompanying future projects in accordance with the DGNB System for Biodiversity-Promoting Exterior Spaces, from consulting clients to successful completion of DGNB Certification. In addition to learning the key stages of the process and the tools applied by the DGNB, you will also be shown how to work with clients and specialist subcontractors/tradesmen during projects.
Subject area 1: DGNB processes and criteria processing
Using explanatory videos, short texts and learning assessments, you will acquire the process and application know-how needed to successfully register and submit a project to the DGNB.
- Understand the steps of a successful submission to the DGNB
- Learn how to apply the criteria and principles of successful verification based on a multi-stage exercise
- How to use the DGNB System Software correctly for audit processing
Subject area 2: Practical project support
Based on text units and interviews with a DGNB Biodiversity Manager, acquire practical insights into supporting DGNB Certification projects.
- First steps of DGNB Certification support: advising clients, understanding projects and placing projects into categories for pre-checks
- The services of a DGNB Biodiversity Manager and the process of managing bids and contracts
- Carrying out pre-checks and using pre-checks to manage projects and teams
- Calculating the cost of your services and planning coordination
- Successful monitoring, support and documentation of certification during implementation
- You will learn how to implement and manage DGNB requirements professional in preparation for the certification of biodiversity-promoting exterior spaces.
- Ensure targets are achieved and learn how to coordinate all measures, including capturing required evidence and documentation with others involved in the project.
- After gaining an understanding of what is important for conformity checks, you will be authorised to submit exterior space projects to the DGNB for certification.
After you have completed all three modules of DGNB Biodiversity Manager training (System Module 1, Expert Know-How/Certification Know-How – Biodiversity-Promoting Exterior Spaces), you will take a 30-minute exam at the end of this final course to confirm you have a firm grasp of environmentally friendly planning, the conservation of exterior spaces and the DGNB System for Biodiversity-Promoting Exterior Spaces. After passing the exam, you will receive the title of DGNB Biodiversity Manager. Further information can be found here.
The examination involves 25 questions on the content of System Module 1 and Expert Know-How – Biodiversity-Promoting Exterior Spaces and can be completed online. The course content of Certification Know-How – Biodiversity-Promoting Exterior Spaces is not covered in the exam. All questions are multiple-choice. To pass the exam, you need to answer at least 70 per cent of questions correctly. If you do not achieve this score on your first attempt, you can try again one more time at no extra charge. Using explanatory videos, texts and interactive quizzes, you learn through our digital learning platform, determine your own learning pace and work through content independently. We recommend that you put around eleven hours aside for the course. Our tutors will lead you through the course in the videos. You will have the opportunity to capture any questions that may arise and discuss them with other course participants and an expert from the DGNB in an online Q&A session.
You will receive access data for the learning platform two to three working days in advance. Our learning platform can be accessed through all standard browsers. No downloads are required. Alternatively, you can also use the app to learn on the go.
Discounted training to become a DGNB Biodiversity Manager
If you already hold the title of DGNB Auditor, you will also receive the title of DGNB Biodiversity Manager after participating in Expert Know How – Biodiversity-Promoting Exterior Spaces and signing the licensing agreement. It is not compulsory to take part in the Certification Know-How – Biodiversity-Promoting Exterior Spaces course or to take the exam, but you will need to submit confirmation that you are authorised as a DGNB Biodiversity Manager.
