More and more people around the world are living in cities and metropolitan areas. In Germany, more than 70 percent of the population already live in cities. This development is often accompanied by brisk construction activity. The Davos Alliance for Built Environment, launched in 2023, is committed to a holistic approach to the planning, construction and management of buildings, infrastructure and public spaces that emphasises the respective architectural contexts and thus creates places of lasting quality. The focus should be on strengthening social cohesion, well-being and resilience, vibrant urban districts, environmental protection and positive economic benefits.
DGNB's role in the Davos Baukultur Alliance
The DGNB is a founding member of the Davos Baukultur Alliance and is active in its steering committee. The non-profit organisation is also involved in two focus groups:
- Sustainability & Circularity
- Rebuilding Ukraine
The DGNB is also a partner of the Davos Declaration "A High Baukultur for Europe", which calls for a better balance between technical and economic, as well as cultural and social aspects of Baukultur and was published in 2018.
In January 2018, Europe's culture ministers adopted the Davos Declaration 'A High Baukultur for Europe'. It shows how a high building culture can be anchored politically and strategically, and reminds us that building is culture and also creates space for culture. The DGNB has committed to the 2018 declaration. Anyone who would like to get involved in building culture now can download the document from the Davos Declaration website and become a partner of the declaration there.
