In order to actively support all stakeholders in taking action and constructing, operating and renovating their buildings in a carbon neutral way, the DGNB has developed a practical guide. In twelve steps, it explains in concrete terms how this can be achieved, from CO2 accounting to the creation of a climate action roadmap and the implementation of climate action measures.
Please note: The guide is currently only available in German.
Reaching the goal in 12 steps
Assessing the current CO2 balance of your building
1. determine energy balance
2. identify energy type and CO2 intensity
3. calculate carbon footprint with the help of tools
4. document the calculation
Draw up a climate action roadmap for your building
5. determine the condition of the building in all fields of action
6. identify climate action potentials and set targets
7. evaluate possible climate action measures and their costs
8. schedule climate action and determine the date of carbon neutrality
9. document calculations and results of the potential analysis
Implement the climate action measures and compile a climate action report
10. establish climate action management and implement planned measures
11. determine carbon footprint regularly and use for internal and external reporting
Quality assurance and verification of your climate action
12. get climate activities certified and awarded by the DGNB
